COLOSSIANS

CHAPTER 1
- We must know the will of God to be able to walk worthy of God, to please Him, and to be strengthened with endurance, patience, and joy in all things.
- Jesus had the words of God and possessed the power of God. This was given to Him by God to exercise before us (1Jn 5:20).
- Jesus was the first being created by God.
- a. God created all things. b. In God all things consist. c. Jesus is the head of the church.
- Through Jesus' death on the cross, God provided a way for us to have forgiveness of our sins. We now can approach Him without wrath or instant judgement and
have a way to be with Him forever.
- If we continue steadfast in the faith, in the belief of the gospel and in the holy living from the gospel we will be holy to God. It will be impossible to be saved unless we
continue to lead lives becoming the gospel.
- The Gentiles would have the hope of glory, the opportunity for salvation, along with the Jews.
CHAPTER 2
- He wanted to see that they were steadfast and remained rooted in the faith.
- To strive against sin and the ways of the world to live pleasing to God. (This is walking in the Light.)
- To be careful of following the wisdom and standards of men.
- By being like Christ we as individual members of the body will make up the complete nature of God as a whole.
- We show our commitment to the covenant of God not with hands or flesh, but we are spiritually circumcised in our hearts and from the sacrifice of Jesus our flesh or
body of sin is cut off.
- a. The requirements or ordinances and rituals of the Law was done away with. b. The scribes, Pharisees, and Sadducees did not favor this.
- By knowledge of God and His will through the Holy Spirit, we can fight against our sinful desires. We will know what to do by the Word of God, and the Spirit will
speak to us when needed.
CHAPTER 3
- We must walk in purity and seek to do things that are pleasing to God and that will be rewarded in heaven.
- Love completes and fortifies us. If we have love then we can have patience, kindness, humility, and forgiveness.
- Our desire to act in love leads to peace in our hearts because we will rely on God to handle the circumstances in our lives.
- By doing our deeds as a disciple of Jesus. We now represent Him.
- They can obey their parents.
- They should obey in all things unless it is something against God's will.
CHAPTER 4
- To know what to say and how much to say, in mercy, to anyone who may speak to you especially about your religion. Our speech should be useful, agreeable,
beneficial to mankind and not overly loaded so as to cause disinterest to the hearer.
